On November 7, Minister of the Interior, Liu Shifang, announced that Taiwan would open its e-Gate system to Malaysian nationals, in response to Malaysia allowing Taiwanese citizens to use its Autogate system since June 1. Malaysia thus becomes the seventh country to reach a mutual automated immigration agreement with Taiwan, following the U.S., South Korea, Australia, Italy, Germany, and Singapore.(From left to right) Isnie Flower, representative of the Malaysia Friendship and Trade Center, receives a commemorative plate for the "Taiwan-Malaysia Automated Immigration Clearance System" from Minister of the Interior, Liu Shifang (Photo / from the Ministry of the Interior website).

Starting today, eligible Malaysian travelers can use Taiwan's e-Gate system free of charge, provided they meet the following conditions: possess a chip passport with a validity of at least six months, are at least 12 years old and 140 cm tall, and have no criminal record in Taiwan. Taiwanese travelers to Malaysia only need a chip passport valid for more than six months, a minimum height of 120 cm, and to complete the "Malaysia Digital Arrival Card" (MDAC) within three days before entry, with no additional registration needed to use Malaysia’s Autogate.

Additionally, Taiwan's National Immigration Agency held a one-week "Foreign Immigration Officers Benchmarking Program" in November, with 19 immigration officers from 12 countries, including key Southeast Asian countries, the Americas, Pacific island nations, and African representatives. Through courses and field visits, participating officers were able to exchange experiences in immigration enforcement and establish a cooperation platform.Letizia Zayas, Secretary to the Director of Immigration in Paraguay, receives a completion certificate for the "2024 Foreign Immigration Officers Benchmarking Program" from Minister of the Interior, Liu Shifang (Photo / from the Ministry of the Interior website).

During the closing ceremony, Minister Liu officially announced the launch of the Taiwan-Malaysia automated immigration service, emphasizing that this initiative not only enhances international cooperation but also facilitates smoother entry and exit for citizens of both countries.
