Japan Jikei University and Russian Academy of Sciences team researchers on June 3 announced the discovery in Tokyo. The remains of frozen Eurasian cave lion cub and wolf have been discovered in the permafrost of northeastern Siberia, the age is about 30.000 years ago, preserved since the Ice Age. Not only bones and muscles, even the organs such as the brain and the eyeballs are completely frozen and preserved.
Dr. Naoki Suzuki a professor of paleontology and medicine with the Jikei University School of Medicine in Tokyo, who studied the remains with a CT scan exclaimed that “as it is still alive!”
The research team estimated that the newest one is an adult that about 3 years old, about 1 meter in length, smaller than the modern wolf. Now, the researchers continue to study the preserved tissue system and DNA, in order to understand its ecology and the relationship with the modern wolves.
In addition, this remains are founded in the permafrost if the same area where the previous remains were founded, as the 4th frozen remain that founded by the same research team in this 17 years. It estimated that the death time was about 30.000 years ago. Moreover there was a cub with the organ, suspected as the female lion cub with its uterus. The cave lion extinct about 10.000 years ago, and the breeds distributed in the frigid zone of Eurasia.
