In the early morning two more than 5 force earthquakes in the Bataan Islands, Philippines, have caused at least 8 deaths and more than 60 injureds. Many buildings have been damaged or have collapsed. The Philippine authorities have not issued a tsunami. alarm.
According to all foreign media reports, the northernmost province of Batanes experienced a magnitude 5.4 earthquake at about 4:16 am, the 27th july. As the aftershocks continued, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred again at 7:00 am, resulting in dozens of people seriously injured and, according to the current information, at least 8 mortal victimes.
The earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 had a focal depth of only 10 kilometers, the epicenter, being very superficial, was located 14 kilometers east of Iba Yate, Philippines.
Because the earthquake occurred when the people were asleep, some of the building walls that collapsed due to the earthquake, slammed into the people. As a consequence some people could not escape.
This two strong earthquakes also caused road cracks. The Philippine authorities have not issued a tsunami warning.
