Starting today, some local governments in Vietnam require companies to allow their employees to "eat and live in the factory", otherwise they will have to stop working.

The Covid-19 epidemic in Vietnam is raging. The southern city of Ho Chi Minh (胡志明市) is the hardest hit area. About 20,000 people were infected in just over 2 months. Neighboring provinces and cities are also doing their best to cope, including Ho Chi Minh City and Long An province (隆安省) and others have set up new standards for business production.

On the 13th, authorities of Ho Chi Minh City required companies to provide the conditions that will allow employees to "eat and live at the factory" or to pick up and drop off workers before they can continue operations. Otherwise, work will be suspended from the 15th.  Long An province also has similar regulations, and implemented them a day earlier on the 13th.

The chairman of Chang Yung Company and chairman of the Taiwan Chamber of Commerce in Ho Chi Minh City (胡志明市台商會), Yuan Chi-fan (袁濟凡) pointed out that because foreign investment companies usually have a big area, they have converted conference halls, social halls, and auditoriums into temporary dormitories.

Chen Hsin-ming (陳信銘), chairman of Hsin Hai Fisheries Co., Ltd. (信海水產責任有限公司), which is engaged in the processing of aquatic products in Long An Province, said that in order to arrange for 200 employees to live in the factory, he also freed up space from his office and activity areas. "The factory is disinfected every two days, and employees wear face masks at work."

However, not all companies can meet these epidemic prevention requirements. Vietnam Express (VnExpress) reported that Li Hai-liu (黎海柳), chairman of Decheng Wood Co., Ltd. (德誠木業股份公司) complained that the factory was built for production, and the facilities for workers to live, eat and wash cannot be provided in a few days.
