The 2024 Taiwan Creative Expo will take place from August 23 to September 1 in Tainan. On July 15, the Ministry of Culture announced that the theme for this year's expo is "Faces of Formosa," aiming to explore the richness of Taiwan's diverse culture. This theme aligns with the Ministry's "1624 Taiwan History Classroom" initiative, aspiring to create an engaging historical classroom filled with the charm of "hundred faces." The main visual design features continuous geometric patterns symbolizing "a hundred faces," offering a fresh visual representation of culture.

The term "hundred faces" (pah-bīn) in Taiwanese conveys a sense of "absolute certainty and confidence," while in Chinese characters, it represents "the island's diverse and ever-changing nature," with diversity stemming from interconnected transformations.

The Ministry of Culture stated that moving the most representative cultural and creative expo in Taiwan to Tainan this year marks a significant milestone, symbolizing 400 years of encounters between Taiwan and the world. The theme "Faces of Formosa" focuses on cultural practices centered around history, ingeniously combining cultural curation with commercial exhibitions and gathering diverse micro-histories.

The main visual, crafted by Tainan's Maomoyu Design team, integrates Tainan's rich historical sites and cultural elements, including the Confucius Temple, traditional gold and silver craftsmanship, and Houbi Kanting's unique intangible cultural heritage, the Shooting Fire Horse. The visual elements seamlessly blend circular text from Tainan’s cityscapes, traditional cultural symbols, and everyday life, symbolizing cultural assets visible in daily life. The 2024 Taiwan Creative Expo features three visual outlines: the Confucius Temple, traditional gold and silver craftsmanship, and the Houbihu Fire Horse (Photo / Sourced from the Ministry of Culture's official website)

The three continuous geometric patterns in the main visual resemble lantern frames, representing the cycle of day and night and the transmission of culture over time. The brick patterns of traditional architecture symbolize historical accumulation and the spirit of traditional craftsmanship. The rising incense smoke signifies the pursuit of upward progress.

In terms of color usage, this year's expo breaks away from Tainan's usual somber tones, opting for three vibrant colors: pastel blue representing "diverse perspectives and interactions," pastel green symbolizing "vibrant creative energy," and teal signifying "inclusive cultural cells."

The 2024 Taiwan Creative Expo will be held at Tainan Cultural and Creative Park, 321 Alley Art Village, and other venues from August 23, with cultural curation, IP licensing, and brand exhibitions at the Tainan Exhibition Center on August 26. The official website has launched, and more exciting highlights of the expo will be announced soon. Stay tuned to the official website and Facebook page for updates.
