A new study explored the potential protective effects of the Mediterranean diet against Covid-19. With over 775 million reported Covid-19 cases globally, researchers reviewed six studies across five countries involving more than 55,400 participants. While three studies found a significant association between the diet and reduced risk of infection, results regarding symptom severity and disease outcomes were less conclusive. The diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and olive oil, may help lower inflammation and boost immune function, though more research is needed to confirm its benefits.

Experts emphasize that, despite the diet's potential advantages, vaccination remains the most effective protection against severe Covid-19 outcomes. The Mediterranean diet has also been associated with reducing risks for other conditions like heart disease, stroke, and dementia, making it a healthy lifestyle choice worth considering.
