Guishan Island reopens to tourists in March

After a two-month annual closing, Guishan Island has allow tourists to visit since March 1.

Guishan Island is the only active volcano in Taiwan and is close to Toucheng Township , Yiland County.  It has an area of 2,85 square kilometers.  On the island, people can go hiking in the mountains and take a walk on the trail around the lake.  The island where is full of natural ecology.  In order to protect the natural environment, the number of tourists is limited.  The maximum number of tourists is 1,800 per day.  One of the popular activities on Guishan Island is whale watching.  There are a lot of dolphins and whales under the sea around the island.

The reason why Guishan Island needs to be closed for two months every year is that there are too much wind and waves from December to February.  For safety, tourists are not allowed to visit the Island.

The island reopened to tourists this March. if you would like to visit the island, don’t forget to apply for permission.
