[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz, who has lived in Taiwan for more than 20 years, is a pediatric expert with a European medical license. He was sent by Pope John Paul II to Taiwan to serve the Catholic Church as a missionary based on his religious convictions. Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz received the Plum Blossom Card in 2018 from National Immigration Agency. Qianzhen Household Registration Office of Kaohsiung City presented The Republic of China national identification card on behalf of the government on professor’s birthday in honor of his unique contributions to Taiwan.

With 11 kids, Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz has lived in Taiwan for more than 20 years. He was not licensed to practice medicine in Taiwan when he arrived as a missionary there. He therefore chose to pursue his first doctor of medicine while also teaching Spanish to make money to support his family. Afterwards, Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz returned to school to earn a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics in order to advance the profession of Spanish teaching. Having earned three Ph.D., Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz has been working as a professor of Department of Spanish, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages in 2001. Throughout this period, he has gained numerous accolades.

The Qianzhen Household Registration Office of Kaohsiung City awarded Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz a The Republic of China national identification card after the Ministry of the Interior determined that he qualified as a senior professional in the nation. This is a huge honor for Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz and his family, he remarked that he works out of love and service rather than for financial gain. Thus, Professor Javier Pérez Ruiz will take this love and glory and continue to work hard in Taiwan and the educational field after becoming a citizen of Taiwan so that students feel cared for, cherished, and respected.
