A new immigrant from China mainland was recently killed in a car accident, according to information received by the NIA Taitung County Service Center of the Southern District Affairs Brigade. The workers at the Service Center took the initiative to look after the new immigrant and help their family members in the procedure from a humanitarian perspective to visit Taiwan for medical treatment and follow-up appointments.
In the event of significant injuries or fatalities of new immigrants, the NIA Taitung County Service Center has established a humanitarian care system to speed up the issuing of travel permits for family members which allow them to visit Taiwan as soon as possible so they may say goodbye to loved ones while visiting them in the hospital. Despite the terrible passing of the new immigrant who was hurt in an accident, the family members nonetheless visited the NIA Taitung County Service Center to show appreciation before leaving for home after dealing with the burial.

According to the director (林明道) of the NIA Taitung County Service Center, if a new immigrant has an accident while living in Taiwan, the service center coworkers will take the initiative to care for them, assist their family members in arriving in Taiwan as soon as possible, and offer legal advice at the same time.

In addition, National Immigration Agency has also set up a special free consultation hotline 0800-024-881 (ByeBye), which provides multilingual services. Migrant workers and foreigners who have overstayed are welcome to use this hotline for consultation.
