The Fleet Branch of Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Affairs Council (CGA, OAC) received a call at 15:30 on 30th November from the Taipei Rescue Coordination Centre, saying that a crew member who was badly in need of an emergency aid got his finger fractured on a Taiwanese ship at the northeast of Sandiaoling. Holding the spirit of rescuing first, the Fleet Branch immediately deployed Aodi Offshore Flotilla to implement rescue at the maximum safe speed, and the Coast Patrol Corps 1 of Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Affairs Council also simultaneously applied for the National Airborne Service Corps’ helicopter for the rescue.

The National Airborne Service Corps’ helicopter firstly arrived at the sea area sending out the urgency message at 16:19, and the Investigation Branch of CGA, OAC successfully finished the hanging operation for the injured at 16:35. The injured was decided to be sent back to the Taipei Veterans General Hospital to extend the rescue time after a medical inspection from the crew. The helicopter landed at the hospital at 17:08 and completed the rescue mission.

“It was the Coast Guard Administration that undertook the responsibility of salvage work and holding the spirit of saving people first. If people were in danger at sea, please call ‘118’ emergency call or send a message to the Fishery Radio Stations, the Coast Guard Administration or relevant government agencies would send a submarine for rescue.”  The Fleet Branch stated.
