In order to encourage overseas Chinese media to write about the efforts and contributions of Taiwanese around the world and to serve overseas Chinese, the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) held The Chinese Language Journalism Award for Overseas Media (CLJAOM) for the first time last year, with the core concept of “Focusing on Taiwan and Reporting on Taiwan”.

According to the official CLJAOM website, the OCAC's slogan for this year is to "see the impact of the Chinese media under the pandemic". The award is to encourage and recognize quality reporting by the overseas Chinese-language media, which can help raise awareness of Taiwan and the overseas Chinese community worldwide.
