Photography Exhibition “Transfer: Taiwan” Open on 24th

A non-profit organization One-forty founded in July 2015 aims to give assistance to 700,000 Southeast Asian foreign workers in Taiwan. It is committed to helping migrant workers cultivate their ability through education and training, hoping to assist them to fulfill their dream in their countries and break the condition of poverty. As founded for 4 years, One-forty is going to hold the 2019 “Transfer: Taiwan” annual photography exhibition from October 24th to 30th to see the life story of migrant workers.

One-forty pointed out that more than 30,000 migrant workers leave their hometowns every year and come to Taiwan from Southeast Asia for five to eight years. They participate in our daily lives as nursing workers, factory workers, and fishermen. But people do not really realize what kind of place Taiwan is for these Southeast Asian migrant workers. The phonography exhibition shows their life stories out of our imagination and try to understand them without the label of migrant workers.

It took six months to prepare for this phonography exhibition which is also the largest exhibition of One-Forty in the four years since its establishment. Through 300 photographs, 30 life stories of migrant workers, and 3 pieces of installation art, the exhibition invite people to join this event and understand the transnational journey of 700,000 migrant workers. In addition, “Transfer: Taiwan” has invited the well-known migrant street photographer Joan Pabona from Hong Kong, Philippine migrant artist Mark Lester Reyes, and Taiwanese artist Luo Yi-jun (羅懿君) to participate in the exhibition’s creation.
