Taiwanese films have gradually overcome language barriers and entered international markets in Europe, America, and Southeast Asian countries, etc. It not only shows that Taiwanese films are recognized globally but also reflects contributions made by government agencies in various countries to promote Taiwanese movies.

Recently, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand (駐泰國台北經濟文化辦事處) and the "Documentary Club" in Thailand jointly held the "Taiwan Documentary Film Festival in Thailand 2021". Several Taiwanese films and documentaries will be shown in Bangkok, Phayao and Hat Yai, and online viewing will be available until December 31.

According to a post on Taiwan in Thailand Facebook, the first day of the Taiwan Documentary Film Festival in Thailand 2021 event was unveiled by the “Flowers Of Shanghai (海上花)” directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsien at the House Samyan Theater in Bangkok, Thailand. “Flowers Of Shanghai” won the 35th Golden Horse Awards for Best Feature Film and the Jury Award. During the festival, ten feature films and three short films will be screened. The film types include narrative feature films and documentaries.

There is a wide variety of films in the festival this year, including the “Days (日子)” directed by Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮) that has received the jury Teddy Award of the Berlin International Film Festival (the Berlinale), and the “Hard Good Life (雜菜記)” directed by Hsu Hui-Ju (許慧如) that is filled with ordinary moments of extraordinary emotional power and deep resonance in our relationships with parents.

Other themes of the short films include discussions about the true stories of boys living in gray areas, new immigrants, and the lives of teenagers with transgender identities. All films have Thai and English subtitles, and some films have Chinese subtitles.
