A giant pink inflatable sculpture by Chinese contemporary artist Yue Minjun has stirred mixed reactions in Ruthin, Wales. The 13-meter-tall artwork, depicting the artist laughing while leaning on a white ball, has been on display at Ruthin School since June 24. The sculpture, representing the societal boredom in 1990s China during economic reforms, has fascinated students and attracted attention but has also divided local opinion.
While some residents appreciate the "eye-catching" and "fantastic" nature of the installation, others find it odd and out of place. The inflatable was created for the Ruthin International Arts Festival, which aims to blend international creativity with local culture. The artwork will be removed from the school grounds when the festival concludes.
