MOEA: mailing masks to overseas relatives starting April 9

With the Wuhan pneumonia (COVID-19) spreading worldwide, Taiwan's daily mask production has reached 12 million units per day. In response to the many complaints from overseas Taiwanese about the lack of mask supplies in the countries they are in, Health Minister and CECC head Chen Shih-Chung said on April 6 that all citizens will be permitted to send face masks to their first and second-degree relatives who are currently abroad from April 9. Each individual is limited to sending a maximum of 30 surgical masks at a time within two months.

Nationals need to apply for an export permit to the Bureau of Foreign Trade and bring face masks and other required documents to Post Office or the courier company to export.

Process of registration as follows:

1、Go to https://emaskep.trade.gov.tw at 9 a.m. on April 9.

2、Fill out information: name, ID number, relation, the sender's phone number (license number), number of masks, and price.

3、Identification: the recipient must be a R.O.C national and the sender's first and second-degree relatives.

4、License issuance: after checking, a license will be issued to the sender by message.

Process of mailing as follows:

1、Via Post Office: the sender has to provide a license number or ID number. Post Office personnel will check if the information is correct on the website.

2、Via express delivery: the sender has to provide a license number, and the company will conduct a simple customs declaration and mailing.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) explained that if the sender is unable to apply online, he or she can fax the information or apply at the counter of the Bureau of Foreign Trade.
