President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) praised the ‘NRICM101 (台灣清冠一號)’ developed by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry, which will assist the global health sector in combating the pandemic.

At the ‘Taiwan-India International Symposium on the Application & Prospect of Traditional Chinese Medicine’ held by the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. The experts from the two countries also gave physical and online speeches, discussing the treatment of COVID-19 with the use of traditional medicine. It is hoped that there will be bilateral cooperation between two the nations and promote the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine markets.

Chen He Xian (陳和賢), Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, who was the Counselor of Science and Technology of the Representative Office in India, said that he was responsible for the management of scientific and technological cooperation projects.

Among the projects, the medical cooperation between Taiwan and India is also an important task of the government's New Southbound Policy. He found that traditional medicine has the potential to be an important field of exchange between the two countries.

The Indian government donated 1.5 million rupees this year to the National Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to support the cooperation and exchanges between the two nations in the field of traditional medicine, which also contributed to the bilateral discussion this time.

Five Indian representatives and eight Taiwanese experts and scholars were invited to share the results of the development, clinical research, the similarities and differences between the traditional medicine regulations of the two countries, and commercialization technology. At the same time, they also talked about the NRICM101 that can be used to treat COVID-19.

Since the Traditional Chinese Medicine market in India has great potential, in the future, both sides can observe and discuss the relevant regulations of the two countries.

Dai Chang Xian (戴昌賢), the President of the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, mentioned that this seminar might promote exchanges between the two countries in traditional medicine, biotechnology, pharmaceutical and other industries. The prescriptions of ancient wisdom would be passed down as well.
