To ensure migrant workers' health and safety and raise their awareness of epidemic prevention, the director of Social and Labor Affairs Department of Nantou County Government, Lin Zhizhong (林志忠), Secretary-general Hong Ruizhi (洪瑞智), and other units including Taoyuan Police Department, the Department of Health, and Nantou City Office visited several places where migrant workers often gather to publicize "social distancing" and "health education". Also, the Department distributed multilingual flyers to remind migrant workers to practice disease control measures.
Since the Covid-19 outbreak spread, the central government has been working with local governments to grasp the comprehensive situation. Given that a cluster of infection occurred among Singaporean migrant workers, to avoid further and potential clusters, Nantou County has put much more effort into inspections everywhere in Nantou and reminded brokers to undertake epidemic prevention measures, Secretary-general Hong stated.
There are approximately 17,350 foreign workers in Nantou County, 7,332 of whom are engaged in manufacturing, and 6,418 of whom are in the social services industry. Those migrant workers often gather on weekends at parks or football pitches. To avoid these clusters of infection, Nantou County Government particularly visited these places and migrant workers' dorms to strengthen the correct concepts of health education, including handwashing, temperature measurement, and social distancing.
The Social and Labor Affairs Department also called on employers and brokers to advise migrant workers not to go to crowded places on weekends and to keep a distance from others of at least 1.5 meters in indoor environments and 1 meter in outdoor ones.
