The 2021 “Migrants Day” celebrations in Taichung City was held at the Taichung City Seaport Art Center (清水區港區藝術中心) on 5 December. With the theme of “Conveying Love and Gratitude”, the call for submissions “New Immigrants Family Photos & Pay it forward” was planned. New immigrants and their children were encouraged to upload family portrait photos and write down their love confession to their family members. Afterward, an award ceremony was held on the day of the event.

Bruce Linghu (令狐榮達), the Deputy Mayor of Taichung City, attended the event and stated, “the event provides a platform for the children of new immigrants to express their love and gratitude.”

According to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior, the number of new immigrants nationwide is nearly 570,000, and the number of new immigrants in Taichung City is nearly 60,000. They have promoted cultural diversity and added the vibrancy of Taichung City in the social, economic, and cultural aspects.

The city government has also comprehensively promoted various immigration measures that provide counseling services. It is hoped that new immigrants would be able to adapt to local life and transform Taichung into a livable city bringing joy to residents.

In addition to the award ceremony, there were performances by the street artist, booths offering exotic cultural immersion activities, and family portrait photo snapshots, etc. Through the event, residents in Taichung could have a better understanding of the new immigrants and at the same time to appreciate the beauty of multiculturalism.
