[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] National Immigration Agency has launched the "Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program" from February 1st to June 30th this year in an effort to assist foreigners who have overstayed in Taiwan return to their home country as soon as possible. A mobile service train was sent by the NIA Hsinchu County Service Center migrant workers’ dormitory in Hsinchu to introduce the program. During the program period, those who self-report will be given lenient punishment, incudes no detention, exemption of entry ban, minimum fine of NT$2,000. NIA call on foreigners who have overstayed in Taiwan to self-report before the end of June this year.

In February, the NIA Hsinchu County Service Center mobile service train visited the dormitory of the human agency company (長宏人力仲介公司勝利宿舍) in Hukou Township and informed 30 Filipino migrant workers about the "Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program", the prevention of human trafficking, and the residence laws and regulations. The workers were urged to told their fellow or relatives who have overstayed that the program period of NIA "Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program" is from February 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023 and friends who have overstayed in Taiwan are encouraged to self-report. After paying the minimum fine of NT$2,000, one can buy a plane ticket and return home.

NIA Hsinchu County Service Center is making an appeal to overstayers. NIA is also actively pushing for a law amendments that would enhance the fine for overstaying (residence) in Taiwan. The goal of the it is to raise the fine from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000 and increase the maximum entry ban to Taiwan to 10 years.
