According to a recent report from the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI), a black truffle native to Taiwan was found in Taimali, Taitung, and was given the name "Taitung Black Truffle." The Taiwanese Black Truffle is regarded by TFRI as having the potential for study and artificial production since it also has the lowest distribution altitude among the truffle species in Taiwan.

Five new truffle kinds have reportedly been found thus far following years of laborious research, according to the Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI). According to TFRI, the majority of the research team's former collection locations were centered in the west of Taiwan, which prevented them from having collecting experience in the east. Fortunately, in October 2017, they discovered black truffles in Taitung for the first time.
According to TFRI, Taitung black truffles are found in low-altitude mountainous regions that are simple to access, but because they are rare, in an effort to prevent the loss of priceless bacteria, they have partnered with Taimalee Research Center to carry out follow-up management, protection, and monitoring of the breeding grounds.
