Health Bureau of Taichung City Proposed 7 Steps for Fighting against Internet Addiction

Nowadays, people depend on Internet on sociality, working and entertainment heavily which even cause the phenomenon of Internet addiction. Health Bureau of Taichung City proposes 7 steps for using Internet healthily and provides Network Usage Habits Self-Screening Scale for people, and call for people should accept treatment as soon as possible if they have Internet addiction.

Among the 8110 Taiwanese teenagers, the prevalence of online game addiction was about 3.1% which is slightly higher than that of Western countries, according to the investigation of Ministry of Health and Welfare.

52% of people with online game addiction stated that they had experiences of spending money in gaming and spent 41 hours a week on online games, which is nearly twice time of people with non-Internet gamer. In the era of rapid development of the technology, human-computer interaction is close, and Internet addiction will be a problem that the public needs to know and face.

In respond to this situation, Health Bureau provided 7 steps for using Internet healthily, including to set up limited using time, insist on the principles of using Internet, taking rest after using 30 minutes, accompanied with children when they use Internet, select suitable website for children, going out for outdoors activities and interacted with children more, hoping the parents and public to assist the children to have the correct perspective of using Internet.
