Experiencing Taiwanese Solar Terms, Food, and Culture, the National Immigration Agency Invites New Residents to Enjoy Eating Dumplings on Winter Solstice

To help new residents to adapt to this new home country, Taiwan, Kaohsiung First Service Station of the National Immigration Agency cooperating with the National Taxation Bureau of Kaohsiung handled the advocacy of social welfare resources and “The advocacy of Family Education for New Residents” and invited a Chinese cuisine lecturer, Chen Qiumin, to together explore important family cultural practices to get to know Taiwan, to experience “Taiwanese Solar Terms, Food, and Culture”, and to write a card of appreciation showing their gratitude through making dumplings together.

It is an important traditional custom in Taiwan to eat dumplings on the Winter Solstice Festival, and Vietnam also has a different culture of eating dumplings. A Rong, a Vietnamese new resident, shares Vietnam’s “Dumpling Festival”. Vietnamese dumplings are called “Bánh trôi nước”, which is translated as “pastry floating on the water”. Vietnam has the cultural habit of eating dumplings only during the Cold Food Festival on 3rd March of the lunar calendar. At the event, new residents washed their hands to make dumplings, experience important traditional customs of Taiwan and brought much joy to the upcoming traditional festivals.

In response to the presidential and vice-presidential and legislative elections, Kaohsiung First Service Station cooperating with the Kaohsiung City Brigade conducts the advocacy of anti-bribery elections, “Everyone is Responsible for Reporting Bribery of

Elections” through this course, and new residents are expected to work together to purify the system of elections. Besides, people reporting any bribery can get a generous bonus. If new residents find any suspicious behaviour, they can immediately report it to the service station. The reporting line: 07-7151660.
