Instant Noodles Shines in New Southbound Culture in Campus

The New Taipei City Education Bureau advocates primary and secondary school teachers to integrate multiculturalism into the courses. There is a teacher present Vietnamese and Taiwanese instant noodles for the students in the classroom to start out a new curriculum. The action successfully turned the new residents’ culture into popular culture of the class and was praised by the Education Bureau on 22nd.

The New Taipei City Education Bureau held the award ceremony for the International Education and Multicultural Integration Curriculum. There are 26 high school and elementary school teachers were awarded. Shao Jin-hua (邵錦華), a teacher from the Xinzhuang Min An Elementary School, who won special prize for the multicultural primary school group, led fifth grade students to know the geographical location and food culture of Vietnam, Japan, the United States and other countries. Shao also asked two Vietnamese second-generation students to share the differences of Vietnamese noodles between Taiwan and Vietnam and explained the reason why the foods adjusted the flavors after entering to another country.

The teachers of the Chong Yang Elementary School Huang Yi-ru (黃薏如), Hsu chiong-wen(許瓊文) and Chiu Shu-juan(邱淑娟) focused on Vietnam and won the award for the International Education Elementary School Group. The teachers introduced the differences in food culture between Vietnam and Taiwan. Then, they let students taste Vietnamese and Taiwanese instant noodles and make Vietnamese spring rolls, so that students started to be interested in a series of courses.

Chong Yang Elementary School stated that the second generation of new residents could only speak their mother tongue language with their parents. This course specially asked these students to be teaching assistants to share their life in Vietnam and help their classmates understand Vietnamese culture It increased the confidence of new resident’s second-generation students and also turned the new residents’ culture to be popular among students.  

The New Taipei City Education Bureau presented that all the award-winning teaching programs have been put in the New Taipei City International Education Information Website, and teachers are welcome to reach the information freely.
