TAGA launched in-person and virtual Art Taipei, promoting international cultural exchanges

According to the Ministry of Culture, the Taiwan Art Gallery Association (TAGA) has successfully launched the "ART TAIPEI (台北國際藝術博覽會)" fair online and offline, featuring 4,000 contemporary artworks from 124 Taiwan and international exhibitors, and holding art lectures, art salons, and a TAERC Forum (台北藝術產業論壇) for collectors and viewers.In light of the pandemic, the fair has created a new exhibition model, such as online viewing rooms, and an AT Remote exhibition area.

Those present at the opening ceremony on Oct. 21 included vice president William Lai (賴清德), minister of culture Lee Yung-te, vice president of legislative yuan Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌), and chairperson of TAGA Chang Yi-chung (張逸羣), among other guests.

Minister Lee stated that this year's fair combines the world's most popular blockchain technology NFT, which enables artworks to be collected permanently. Another highlight is the special exhibition dedicated to indigenous artists, "The Native Garden in the Mountains," exploring the subjects of Taiwan's modern indigenous peoples, the natural world, and ecological sustainability. These featured elements all make the fair more diverse, he added.

Ministry of Culture says that this year, 92 local and 32 overseas galleries attend the physical exhibition, which will take place at the Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition from Oct. 22 to 25. The fair specially launches the AT Remote exhibition area to provide services for overseas exhibitors.

In response to the global trend of online and offline exhibitions addition, the two online viewing rooms will be on display from Oct. 22 to Nov. 5. Additionally, the fair has also collaborated with the NFT curating and management platform EchoX to launch a virtual gallery, featuring exhibits from Taiwan’s galleries such as Dynasty Gallery and Chini Gallery.

Organized by TAGA, the ART TAIPEI has been the landmark of the International Contemporary Art Fair in the Asia-Pacific region since 1992, focusing on 20th and 21st-century artworks. This year, a total of 124 galleries from 9 different countries, including Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, France, and the United States, present a rich diversity of contemporary art.
