The continuous bilateral confrontations resulted in significant losses after Israel was attacked by Hamas, the Islamist political and military group. Taiwan's tallest building, Taipei 101 was illuminated in the Israeli flag's colors of blue and white, expressing grief for the victims and praying for global peace.

The Palestinian Islamist organization Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007, carried out an attack on Israeli territory in July of this year, murdering locals and igniting violent clashes, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Israel likewise declared war on the other side right away, and the two sides kept exchanging heavy gunfire.
