With her most recent film, "Day Off," Taiwanese director Fu Tien-yu just took home the "Mulberry Award for Best Screenplay" at the Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy. It is difficult to win this prize since there are too many excellent stories to choose from this year, according to the opinions of the worldwide jury, and "Day Off" touched them the most.

Since 1999, the Udine Far East Film Festival has been taking place. It has long promoted top-notch and current hot-topic Asian films in Italy and is a significant means for Asian films to penetrate the European market. For the competition this year, 43 films from 11 different Asian nations or regions (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Mongolia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Philippines, Thailand) were chosen. It's a really tough market to break into. Out of a crowded field of nominees, Taiwan's "Day Off" took home the "Mulberry Award for Best Screenplay."

The Golden Horse Award-winning actor Lu Hsiao-fen stars in "Day Off," which was adapted from the director Fu Tien-yu's family saga. Director Fu expressed her gratitude to the jury for honoring her with this prize. She thinks that since this movie depicts how people are related to one another, it is possible for various nations and cultures to communicate via films.
