Taiwan participated in the 2024 56th International Chemistry Olympiad hosted by Saudi Arabia. Among 327 students from 90 countries, Taiwan's four representatives won a total of two golds and two silvers, ranking 5th internationally (based on the number of gold medals). The gold medalists are Ko Yen-Hung (ranked 7th individually) and Lu Chia-Wei (ranked 16th individually) from Tainan First Senior High School. The silver medalists are Chen Chun-Tse (ranked 37th individually) from Taichung First Senior High School and Lin Chun-Yu (ranked 41st individually) from Chien Kuo High School.
The K-12 Education Administration explained that Taiwan's team was trained by a mentoring team composed of university professors from Taiwan. Four representatives were selected from 2,079 students across 131 schools nationwide. The team leader is Professor Lu Chia-Jung from the National Taiwan Normal University, and the deputy leader is Professor Li You-Tzu. The team assistants include Professor Chang Yi-Chih from National Taiwan Normal University, Professor Wang Tsung-Hsing from National Taiwan University, Professor Tsai Yi-Chou from National Tsing Hua University, Researcher Yu Shao-Hua from Academia Sinica, and Teacher Chou Yu-Chia from Tainan First Senior High School, responsible for translating test questions and score arbitration.

To reward outstanding students, the Ministry of Education has established the "Preferential Admission Measures for Students with Excellent Performance in International Mathematics and Science Olympiads and International Science Exhibitions." Award-winning students can be recommended or directly admitted to various university departments. Gold, silver, and bronze medalists receive scholarships of NTD 200,000, 100,000, and 50,000 respectively from the Ministry of Education.
The K-12 Education Administration stated that it will continue to select and train outstanding students to participate in international competitions to promote international exchanges, expand students' global perspectives, and strive for honor.
