The Halifax International Security Forum (HFX, 哈利法克斯國際安全論壇) announced that it will hold the HFX TAIPEI forum (哈利法克斯:台北論壇) from January 21 to 23, 2022, in Taipei in association with Taiwan’s Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR, 國防安全研究院). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) welcomes HFX’s announcement.

HFX is widely recognized as a key global forum for democracies to discuss security issues and strengthen strategic cooperation. In May 2021, HFX announced that President Tsai Ing-wen had been awarded the 2020 John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service, recognizing the achievements of President Tsai and the Taiwanese people in containing the COVID-19 pandemic and safeguarding democracy.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ou Chiang-an (歐江安) said that "HFX Taipei" will be the first large-scale seminar organized by HFX organizers in Asia, which will further highlight Taiwan as an active democracy in Asia. The MOFA will work closely with organizers such as the "HFX" and "INDSR" to ensure the event’s success and to facilitate cooperation with international partners to jointly protect the values of freedom and democracy.
