According to Bongbong Marcos OKs DOH bid for Universal Health Care coordinating body | Inquirer News, the plan to establish a committee to supervise the execution of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Act has been authorized by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

At a news event in Malacañang on October 24, Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa revealed this information. He mentioned that the country's disjointed healthcare system prompted the Department of Health (DOH) to suggest creating the Universal Health Care Coordinating Council.

By executive order, the President authorized the Department of Health's request to establish a Universal Health Care Coordinating Council. Accordingly, he stated, this will be designed and drafted by the Department of Health.

According to Herbosa, the council will consist of the following: DOH; the Departments of Finance (DOF); Information and Communications Technology (DICT); Budget and Management (DBM); and Interior and Local Government (DILG); in addition, the Professional Regulation Commission and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) will be represented.

The health policies will be standardized by DOH. Acting as a national governing body, the council will supervise the project and determine the overall national cost of the Universal Health Care Act's implementation. According to Bongbong Marcos OKs DOH bid for Universal Health Care coordinating body | Inquirer News, the DOH head added that municipal governments should also be implementing universal health care.

Furthermore, the DOH chief mentioned that the body may hear comments or difficulties about the UHC Act's execution.

According to Bongbong Marcos OKs DOH bid for Universal Health Care coordinating body | Inquirer News, the UHC Act has been attempting to reintegrate the nation's healthcare system since its adoption, as Herbosa pointed out, but the Local Government Code of 1991 decentralized it.

The UHC system would incorporate the healthcare plans of 71 local government entities, according to Herbosa.
