Elementary School in Taichung holds DIY & reading activities to promote multiculturalism

Taichung Municipal Cheng Kung Elementary School organized a series of cultural learning, enabling students to have a better understanding of multiculturalism. Besides, the course provides immersive experiences through picture books, talks, practical experiences, and activities.

About 40 students’ parents are from Vietnam and therefore, Academic Affairs Division chose a picture book “Tidiem’s Present” to share Vietnamese cultures. Moreover, the school also invited Pei Thi Huong (裴氏香) – who teaches Vietnamese – to introduce the geography, food, costumes, etc., to students. She also guided students to sing Vietnamese folk songs.

Another guest invited was a nutritionist – Li Si Rong (李思蓉). She added pho to the lunch menu and hence, the school personnel and students were able to taste Vietnamese cuisine.

President Zeng Ping Yan (曾娉妍) said that it’s a blessing to live in Taiwan. We can enjoy gourmet food from all over the world without the need to travel abroad.

Often, food and drink are inextricably intertwined with a country’s historical background, geographical environment, and characteristics of nationalities. Therefore, the school promotes international education through a combination of reading and delicacies, allowing students to actively explore the cultures of various countries and enhance their awareness of respecting multiculturalism.
