According to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC), in response to the new domestic case and to reduce the risks of community infection and transmission, the CECC on December 10 urged individuals who have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine for five months to get a booster dose of Moderna for better protection.

Based on the currently approved practices in other countries and Taiwan's ACIP vaccination recommendations, the booster dose of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is 50 micrograms (for the current vaccine vial, the volume of a booster shot is 0.25 ml).

CECC explained that the immune protection provided by the COVID-19 vaccines of various brands will decrease over time. In addition, the new coronavirus variant may have a greater potential to escape prior immunity. Therefore, one may still get infected due to a lack of immune protection even after two doses of the vaccines.

It is recommended that people who are eligible can make an appointment to get the booster shot, especially for the medical staff, epidemic prevention staff, frontline workers, seniors over 65 years old, residents and workers of long-term care institutions, and those who are susceptible to infection and severe diseases.

CECC reminded the public to bring along the "COVID-19 vaccination record card" (yellow card) and a health insurance card and explain your past vaccination history during the pre-vaccination assessment to facilitate the doctor's evaluation.

In addition, starting from December 5, the CECC will collaborate with Tri-Service General Hospital (三軍總醫院), Tri-Service General Hospital Songshan Branch (三軍總醫院松山分院), and Medical Manpower of Taipei Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare to provide more convenient Moderna vaccination services for the public.
