Vietnam's tourism industry continues to seek opportunities amid the pandemic

According to data released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam on December 29, 2021, international tourists traveling to Vietnam in December 2021 increased by 14.2% from the previous month. This is because the Vietnam government has been piloting flight routes to attract more tourists. Besides, the Vietnam government agreed to resume regular international routes (commercial flights) on a trial basis from January 1, 2022.

In November 2021, the first batch of international tourists arrived Vietnam under the pilot project. International tourists returned to Vietnam after halting flights for a long while as the result of the efforts made by the Vietnamese tourism industry. By the end of December 2021, it is estimated that there were 3,000-3,500 international tourists entering Vietnam.

The first phase was set to begin on January 1, 2022. Vietnam Airlines planned to serve flights between Vietnam and the US, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. This phase was supposed to take roughly two weeks to complete.

Vietnam Airlines planned to resume more two-way flights between Vietnam and the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Russia, Australia, Hong Kong (China), and Malaysia in phase two.
