NCCU New Southbound Taking a Step Forward to the World and Strengthening the Cooperation of Taiwan and ASEAN Higher Education Forum

"2019 Taiwan and ASEAN Higher Education Forum" was held today at the National Chengchi Unversity. There were 4 vice presidents of famous universities from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam that attended. They conducted deep communication about how to reinforce creative courses, exchange students and teachers, and further collaborative courses. 

"2019 Taiwan and ASEAN Higher Education Forum" was held by the Office of International Cooperation of NCCU, and there were four universities within the top 3 ranks that also attended, such as the University of Social Science and Humanities in Vietnam, Thammasat University in Thailand, Tunku Abdul Rahman University in Malaysia, and Airlangga University in Indonesia.

President Guo Mingzheng of NCCU made an opening speech and stated that ASEAN is a promising actor in global economics. NCCU has long cooperated with ASEAN outstanding universities, and "2019 Taiwan and ASEAN Higher Education Forum" in Taipei is a new and important milestone. He particularly mentioned that Taiwan receives an aggregate score of 93 (higher than the US) in the "Freedom in the World 2019" index conducted by Freedom House. Also, the National Health and Welfare Insurance in Taiwan ranks 1st, hence, Taiwan is a perfect place for international students studying. 

For a long time, NCCU has had a close relationship with the universities of Southeast Asia and now has 1,653 foreign students including over 1,000 students from Western Asia. In 2019, apart from international students from Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, and Korea, there are also many students from Southbound countries, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand that account for more than 40 percent. The forum was opened with "How to build a strategic alliance for Asia Studies, and Deputy Dean of College of Arts Yang Ruisong and Dean of International College of Innovation Liu Fuguo also provided keynote speeches and discussion. There were almost 70 people that attended to discuss how to innovate higher education under globalization.
