Election Day Countdown, Disseminating Polling Information is Not Allowed

The countdown to Taiwan's election has entered its final days. According to the Election and Recall Act, from 0:00 on January 1 to  4:00 pm on January 11, no polling information related to candidates or elections can be released by any means, such as reporting, disseminating, commenting, or quoting. Besides, starting at 00:00 on the polling day, candidates and political parties won't be allowed to resort to social media or other ways for promoting and canvassing. Violators will be fined from NT $ 500,000 to NT $ 5 million.

The Central Election Commission explains that according to Article 52.2 of the Presidential and Vice Presidential Election and Recall Act and  Article 53.2 of the Civil Servants Election and Recall Act, from 10 days before the polling day to the end of the polling deadline, parties and anyone must not publish polls related to candidates or elections in any way, nor can they report, distribute, comment on or quote.

The Central Election Commission particularly calls on parties, candidates, polling organizations, all media, and all people to conform to the Election and Recall Act and not to break the law.
