President Tsai Ing-wen met with Senator Risa Hontiveros of the Philippines and the delegation and expressed her gratitude to them for their long-standing support of Taiwan as well as for the contribution that Filipino migrant workers have made to Taiwan's industry and economy. In an effort to promote more contacts and cooperation, President Tsai Ing-wen said she would warmly welcome students from the Philippines to Taiwan. The senator also stated her support for Taiwan's democracy and her concern over Taiwan's economic and trade growth, as well as the welfare of Filipino migrant workers there.

According to President Tsai, there are presently close to 150,000 Filipino migrant workers in Taiwan who have significantly boosted Taiwan's economy and industry and served as a link between Taiwan and the Philippines. In order to expand the possibilities for mutually beneficial cooperation, President Tsai also encourages Filipino students to pursue higher education in Taiwan so they may work directly for businesses once they graduate.

Senator Risa Hontiveros expressed her gratitude for the chance to speak with President Tsai about the issues that the nations are facing and pledged to remain committed to preserving national security, enhancing economic and trade ties between Taiwan and the Philippines, and promoting the welfare of migrant workers in Taiwan. At the same time, it made note of how, over the last few decades, economic and commercial cooperation as well as national unity have strengthened ties between two nations. The Senator thanks Taiwan for seeing the Philippines as a key gateway and for stepping up their collaboration in fields including agriculture, fisheries, and green technologies.

Sen. Risa Hontiveros of the Philippines stressed the significance of peace for public safety and economic success. She is certain that Taiwan and the Philippines will continue to deepen their cooperative ties and contribute to a peaceful and lovely future.
