Liu Ruo Xiu, an Indonesian new immigrant living in the Yongkang District, received an award with her son during the event.
New immigrants face a lot of challenges as they move to Taiwan, socially and economically. Liu was not defeated by the hardships in life, she managed to make her ends meet by working as a babysitter and making handcrafts. She took nice care of her children. Many people were impressed and moved by her effort.
Liu Ruo Xiu mentioned the Women and Children care association has been proving assistance for her son since he was 10 years old.

Her son has shown excellent academic performance. He was always at the top of the class in junior high school and high school, and in the end, he was admitted into college.
Liu says that her son is a thoughtful child. Her son chose to commute to school instead of living in a dorm as a choice to reduce the economic burden on his mother.
After the Tainan City Women and Children care association heard of Liu’s difficulty, they discussed how to assist the family with Liu Ruo Xiu. And the association helped Liu’s son to apply for school subsidies and arranged a part-time job for Liu’s son. In the end, Liu’s son was able to attend college and live in the school dorm, without worrying too much about the family's economy.
