The Jiuzhuang Tea Mountain area in Nangang is one of Taipei City's few regions that still preserves rich natural ecosystems. Every year between April and May, as night falls, swarms of fireflies dance through the mountain forests, creating a magical summer evening ambiance. This year, the "Night Visit to Fireflies" viewing event will take place on April 19, April 26, and May 1, hosted by the Taipei City Office of Industrial Development and the Taipei City Dakeng Industry and Culture Association. The public is invited to visit the Nangang Tea Manufacturing Demonstration Field to witness the mesmerizing sight of fireflies illuminating the mountain landscape up close.
During the event, participants will explore the ecological wonders of Jiuzhuang Tea Mountain, where they can spot common Taiwanese firefly species such as black-winged fireflies and yellow-edged fireflies twinkling like a flowing river of light in the forest. Organizers remind visitors to remain quiet, avoid shining flashlights directly at the fireflies, and refrain from using insect repellent to protect the delicate firefly habitat and preserve the beauty of nature.
To reach the firefly viewing site, visitors can start from Yanjiuyuan Road and head toward Jiuzhuang Tea Mountain. The Nangang Tea Manufacturing Demonstration Field is about a 20-minute drive from the starting point. The surrounding trails offer beautiful scenery, and in addition to fireflies, visitors can learn about Nangang Tea Mountain&rsquos tea industry and cultural history while overlooking Taipei&rsquos city lights, enjoying the tranquil mountain atmosphere.
This unique firefly-viewing event combines ecology, culture, and the tea industry, allowing citizens to enjoy the romantic glow of fireflies while connecting with nature and experiencing Taipei's rare ecological treasures during the early summer season.
