Excessive sodium intake is harmful to health, and many people consume high-sodium foods unknowingly. Senior nurse Tan Dunci, on the show "Big Bang," reminds the public of eight common high-sodium foods, including noodles, dumplings, miso soup, fried chicken, toast, Caesar salad dressing, cold noodles, and sports drinks. She advises people to eat in moderation and pair with high-potassium fruits like bananas and guavas to balance sodium levels in the body and protect cardiovascular health.High-Potassium Fruit: Banana (Image Credit: photoAC)
According to the Ministry of Health's recommendations, daily sodium intake should be limited to 2,400 milligrams (equivalent to 6 grams of salt). However, Tan Dunci notes that a regular bowl of noodles contains about 2,500 milligrams of sodium, already exceeding the limit, and adding vinegar increases it further. Dumplings, often overlooked as high-sodium food, contain approximately 75 milligrams of sodium per piece, and ten dumplings equal 750 milligrams, especially with dipping sauces adding even more.
Miso soup also hides high sodium, with a bowl containing 600 milligrams. Tan Dunci emphasizes that fried chicken, a popular snack, is often heavily seasoned and then dusted with additional seasoning powder, making it easy to overconsume sodium.High-Sodium Food: Miso Soup (Image Credit: photoAC)
In addition, toast has added salt during preparation, with each slice containing up to 750 milligrams of sodium; a 600-milliliter sports drink contains 270 milligrams; Caesar dressing has 1,275 milligrams per 100 grams; cold noodles contain 1,109 milligrams, making them hidden high-sodium sources. She advises consumers to carefully check food labels and sodium levels on packaging to avoid overconsumption.
Tan Dunci reminds people that excessive sodium intake can strain the heart and blood vessels, so drinking plenty of water and eating high-potassium fruits like bananas and guavas can help balance sodium and reduce bodily strain.
