According to CECC, CECC confirms 4 more imported cases; cases arrive in Taiwan from Italy, the Philippines and the UK.
On April 9, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced four new confirmed imported cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Taiwan. Those four new cases arrived in Taiwan from Italy (Case #1052), the Philippines (Case #1053 and Case #1054) and the United Kingdom (Case #1055).
The CECC pointed out that Case #1052 is a Taiwanese woman in her 50s. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 in Italy in 2020. She was later given tests on December 21 and December 25, and the test results were negative. She returned to Taiwan on December 27.
The Taiwanese woman experienced a fever on April 6, 2021, and visited the hospital to seek medical care and undergo testing. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 9 (the CT value was 34; she tested negative after given another RT-PCR test, and she tested positive for total antibodies).
Case #1053 is an over 20-year-old female migrant worker from the Philippines. The female migrant worker traveled to Taiwan for work on March 5. She was tested for COVID-19 on March 18 before completing the quarantine period, and the test result came back negative. Due to work requirements, she visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on April 7. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 9 (the CT value was 32; she tested negative after given another RT-PCR test, and she tested negative for IgM and positive for IgG antibodies).
Case #1054 is an over 20-year-old male migrant worker from the Philippines. The male migrant worker traveled to Taiwan for work on March 17. He was tested for COVID-19 on March 30 before completing the quarantine period, and the test result came back negative. Due to work requirements, he visited the hospital to take a self-paid test on April 7. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 9 (the CT value was 35; he had a CT value of 37 after given another test, and he tested negative for IgM and positive for IgG antibodies).
Case #1055 is a Taiwanese male in his 30s. While he was in the United Kingdom, he developed a fever and cough and sought medical attention in late November 2020. He later was diagnosed with COVID-19. The Taiwanese man returned to Taiwan on March 26, 2021. He was tested on March 27, and the test result came back negative. He was tested again on April 8, before completing the quarantine period. Infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in the case on April 9 (the CT value was 32; he is awaiting the second RT-PCR test result and antibody test result).
The CECC reported that a cumulative total of 194,521 cases related to COVID-19 have been reported in Taiwan among which COVID-19 has been ruled out in 192,516. Of these reported cases, infection with COVID-19 was laboratory-confirmed in 1054 cases. Of the 1054 confirmed cases, 938 are imported; 77 are indigenous; 36 are naval crew members aboard the Panshi fast combat support ship; 2 are infections on an aircraft; 1 case has unknown sources of infection; and 1 case (Case #530) has been removed (Case #530 is not assigned to any patients). Of the confirmed cases, there have been 10 deaths, and 1018 patients have been released from isolation, with the other 26 patients remaining hospitalized in isolation.
