[Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network] In order to prevent foreign students from violating the law because they don’t know the laws and regulations after coming to Taiwan, The NIA Hualien County Service Center and the Hualien County Specialized Corps went to National Dong Hwa University to conduct publicity on the laws and regulations, so that students can understand important information in Taiwan and protect them. In particular, "Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program" implemented by National Immigration Agency since February 1st was also introduced to foreign students and called on students who know overstayers in Taiwan to encourage them to seize the opportunity to self-report.

The NIA Hualien County Service Center conducts residence and stay laws and introduces the "Online Application System for Foreign Students," and reminds students that if they enter the country with a residence visa, they should apply for a residence permit through the "Online Application System for Foreign Students" within 15 days; When the residence permit expires, they should apply for an extension to the system within 30 days before the expiration. The NIA Hualien County Service Center also remind them that doing any unlawful work is absolutely forbidden. They should submit an application for a work permit to the Ministry of Labor if they want to work. The NIA Hualien County Specialized Corp then conducted anti-human trafficking, anti-fraud, and other crime prevention propaganda, urging students to refrain from participating in online fraud and crimes in Taiwan and to safeguard their own rights and interests.

The Hualien County Service Station's director (胡朝仁) stated that National Immigration Agency places a high priority on the rights and interests of foreign students in Taiwan. In addition, in order to assist the overstayers to return home safely as soon as possible, from February 1st to June 30th, the "Expanded Overstayers Voluntary Departure Program" of NIA will be implemented. During the program period, three major measures will be adopted: no detention, exempted from entry ban, minimum fine of NT$2,000, to encourage overstayers to self-report.
In addition, National Immigration Agency has set up a free consultation hotline 0800-024-881 (ByeBye) for this program, which provides multi-language services for the pubic to inquire.
