Hsinchu Hsin Ke Junior High First Bilingual School Expands Global Vision

To improve students' international competitiveness, Hsinchu City Government has promoted bilingual education for the first time at Hsin Ke Junior High School in Academic Year 108, subsidizes 2 foreign teachers and teaching equipment for the school, and creates a friendly English learning environment. Mayor Lin Zhijian states that the city government fully assists the school to implement the bilingual education policy so that the 2030 bilingual national policy can be implemented earlier in Hsinchu City.

 

"The school creates a comprehensive English learning environment to make students speak English as fluently as speaking Chinese.", President Peng Yuanfeng of Hsin Ke Junior High School states that in terms of the environment shaping, the school has established bilingual classrooms, English charging stations, and bilingual offices, which can be used for courses or activities; For formal courses, there are two courses provided: scouting course and physical education course that Taiwanese and foreign teachers will also join in the courses together. To make the courses go smoother, Taiwanese, foreign teachers, and bilingual project teachers will prepare lessons together before class. There are also many bilingual activities in informal classes on Halloween and Christmas for students to fall in love with English. Besides, implementing literacy-oriented teaching into courses, such as Biology, Information, Arts, and English is to allow students to make achievement reports in all English or design level games for seventh-grade students to play with it in English.

 

Director of the Department of Education of Hsinchu City Government, Huang Jinneng, states Hsin Ke Junior High School's bilingual education that makes students love speaking English has achieved remarkable results. Bilingual education is a key policy in Hsinchu City, and it is even urgent to improve each child's English ability in Hsinchu City. In the future, the city government will be continuing to promote bilingual education or comprehensive English teaching to enhance children's international competitiveness in Hsinchu.
