Taiwan Leftover Vaccines: Policies across all counties and cities

On June 25, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) announced that to avoid vaccine wastage, the leftover vaccine doses from the last opened vial on the day of administration can be offered to individuals registered under the standby list mechanisms of vaccination sites.

Recommended procedures are listed below

  1. Vaccination sites announce details about COVID-19 vaccination procedures and opening of the standby list registration
  2. Vaccination sites are recommended to make standby lists for adults aged 18 and over

Taiwan provides the COVID-19 vaccine on a large scale. The CECC announced that that leftover vaccine will be distributed to avoid spoilage due to being open for 6 hours. From now open, adults over 18 years old can reserve for these vaccines.

"Leftover Vaccine Appointment Plant" for cities and counties

Taipei City: People living near hospitals and clinics and are eligible to book appointments for public vaccinations. (Aside from categories 1 and 10). The public can visit The Department of Health website to inquire about hospitals and clinics nearby their homes.

New Taipei City: People can register for leftover vaccines in 27 hospitals, 29 district health centers, and 177 contract clinics in the city. For more information, contact the Department of Health, New Taipei City Government or visit their website here

Keelung City: Keelung City currently has no clinics open for vaccine registration. There are not many leftover vaccines, therefore only persons in categories 8, 9, 10. (Not open to the general public not listed in categories)

Taoyuan City: Appointments for leftover vaccines are available at 11 hospitals and contract clinics. However, the first 6 categories are not eligible to apply. Priority will be given to those in those 6 categories that were previously not vaccinated. Any remaining leftover vaccines will be provided for the public.

Hsinchu County: Medical institutions will set regulations in accordance with current on-site conditions and medical staff. If people over 18 years old have special conditions requiring vaccination, they can apply according to the institution's regulations.

Hsinchu City: Once vaccination stations are through with administering vaccines, the local city government will count the remaining vaccines. After, qualified persons, like the elderly,  will be notified to receive the vaccine. The purpose of the unified control of vaccines is to ensure the fairness and impartiality of vaccine administration. 

Miaoli County: 18 municipal health centers and hospitals within the county have gaps between the urban and rural areas.  Therefore the Department of Health designed vaccination stations and appointments in accordance with local conditions. 

Taichung City: The Taichung City Government set online registration systems up on June 25 and announced the "Taichung City COVID-19 Leftover Vaccine Administration Information Network" on June 28. Citizens can apply for leftover vaccines through this site

Changhua County: Aside from elders aging from 85 to 84 years old, a total of 160,548,488 people are not eligible for vaccinations. The current amount of leftover vaccines in Changhua is in the previously announced category. Elders over 65 years old are given priority. There is no need to make appointments for leftover vaccines. If you are not within the priority age group, please do not contact medical institutions for inquiries for the time being.

Nantou County: From now on, appointments are available in 59 medical institutions. People over the age of 18 will be waitlisted. Only when leftover vaccines are available will registration be open to the public. 

Yunlin County: In accordance with the CECC's Leftover Vaccine Regulations, priority will be given to those in categories 1 to 10. The Department of Health will allow medical institutions to operate in accordance with their regulations and the public can directly inquire at these medical institutions. 

Chiayi City: Vaccines are administered in 4 hospitals, the Chiayi Municipal Sports Park Gymnasium, or other institutions. Leftover vaccines will be given to those in the 1st and 2nd categories. Future leftover vaccine administration will be followed by the announcements made by the CECC. 

Tainan City: Tainan City has a 100% vaccine rate. Vaccinations will be administered according to the CECC's expectations of the 8th category (seniors over 65 years old). Appointments will not be required and there will be leftover vaccines available.

Kaohsiung City: Kaohsiung City's COVID-19 leftover vaccine administration rules were announced on June 26.

Yilan County: 12 municipal health centers are not accepting appointments via telephone beginning at 4 pm. Each center has a quota of 150 vaccines. 

Hualien County: Vaccine stations will have up to 6 doses in a day. Therefore, each station accepts up to 7 appointments, including 6 immediate receivers and 1 waitlist. People over the age of 18 can bring their ID and health insurance cards when making appointments. Once accepted, they will receive a notification. The administration will have to depend on the available doses for the day.

Taitung County: Vaccines are administered by appointments, and there is no shortage of leftover vaccines.
