According to Jobless, underemployment rates fell in August | Inquirer Business, according to figures from the Philippine Statistics Authority, there were fewer jobless Filipinos in August while the standard of the employment that were available appeared to have increased.

According to a countrywide poll cited by the PSA, 2.21 million Filipinos were unemployed or had failed businesses in August, corresponding to a 4.4 percent unemployment rate.

In July, when the unemployment rate was 4.8 percent, there were 2.27 million people without jobs.

The decrease in unemployment was attributed, according to National Statistician Claire Dennis Mapa, to a rise in farm jobs and greater retail trade activity associated with school reopenings.

According to PSA statistics, 5.63 million Filipinos were looking for more hours to increase their income at the same time, giving them an underemployment rate of 11.7 percent in August.
