The first Taiwan and Belize Academic Conference (首屆台灣、貝里斯學術會議) was held online on July 4th. Belize Ambassador to Taiwan, Candice Pitts (碧坎蒂), said that students from Belize not only benefited from their interaction with Taiwan society through various forms of academic exchanges and dialogues but they can also contribute to Taiwanese society, to benefit the students and the relationship between the two countries.

In a speech, Pitts said that the idea of holding an academic conference was inspired by the Belize students studying in Taiwan. She organized this academic seminar with the hope that the students will invest a lot of their time and energy in study and learning so that they can do more after completing their studies.

Belize’s ambassador to Taiwan, Pitts, said that the Belize students studying in Taiwan represent different communities from Belize. These students usually set long-term goals based on their own experience and later decide which academic field they want to study. Through various forms of academic exchanges and dialogues, the Belize students can benefit and at the same time contribute to Taiwanese society.

In addition, Pitts pointed out that through this conference, students, alumni and educators of the two countries will have a dialogue on the practicality of their own research and create more opportunities for cultural exchanges. Belize currently needs an empirical decision-making system, policies and professions. The conference also focuses on talents, skills and training.
