The "2024 Formosa North Coast Art Festival" will grandly take place from September 28 to October 20, organized by the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration under the Tourism Bureau and co-hosted by the New Taipei City Government. The New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Bureau will collaborate with local offices, artists, community revitalization teams, and schools to host a series of events, including art exhibitions, cultural journeys, and community networking, creating a dialogue between residents and visitors. This will allow everyone to experience the unique cultural charm of the North Coast from a new perspective.
The New Taipei City Cultural Affairs Bureau announced that the festival's prelude activities would begin in August, starting with the "New Taipei Art Box" project, in collaboration with Tamsui's community-building teams. Curator Tu Wei-Cheng will lead emerging artists, including Wang Yu-Sung, Yu Yu-Hsiang, Lin You-Nong, Liao Xin-Ying, Chang Wen-Gong, and Jih Jian-Hua, to conduct community site surveys in Tamsui, Sanzhi, Shimen, and Jinshan. They will also connect with resources from Taipei National University of the Arts and Tamkang University, allowing young students to participate. Through art creation, small travel experiences, exhibitions, performances, workshops, and markets, the project will discover and showcase the beauty and diversity of the North Coast.Participating artists and students conduct a site survey at the Cheng Family Ancestral Home in Tamsui. Curator Tu Wei-Cheng mentioned that the "New Taipei Art Box" project will engage emerging artists in community-based residency, guiding residents in co-creation while connecting community teams from Tamsui, Sanzhi, and Jinshan, such as "Wave Jinshan," "BiBi Village," "Cheng Ancestral House," and "Herb Street House." These teams, along with the resident artists, will regularly host online exchange meetings, workshops, tours, and exhibitions, encouraging people to experience the vibrant culture of the North Coast through art and to document their encounters with the area's natural beauty.
More details on upcoming events will be announced soon. Those interested are encouraged to follow the "OPEN North Coast" Facebook page for updates: https://www.facebook.com/open.northcoast.
