Cross-national marriage is becoming more common nowadays. To help bridge the gap between new immigrants’ cultures & Taiwan cultures, and also to enable them to adjust to living in Taiwan, Taoyuan County Veterans Service Office, VAC (Veterans Affairs Council) recently invited new immigrants and their families, spouses, volunteers, and community leaders to participate in the department’s annual new immigrants’ activities that promote life adjustment.

In this event, Taoyuan County Veterans Service Office invited social workers to share about long-term care, professional medical information, medical welfare for veterans with new immigrants and their families, so that everyone could better understand their rights and interests.

National Immigration Agency (Taoyuan County Service Center) & Office of Employment Services and Vocational Training, Zhongli were also invited to share information on the prevention and control of human trafficking, the concept of gender equality in a relationship, consumer protection education, and employment information for new immigrants. Besides the information sharing session, an Aromatherapy DIY talk was held to teach participants how to de-stress.

Xu Wei Guang (徐偉光), the director of the Taoyuan County Veterans Service Office, said that he was moved by the new immigrants’ spirits in overcoming cultural differences & language barriers to genuinely take care of their partners and support each other.

It is hoped that through this event that promotes communications, new immigrants would be able to integrate themselves into Taiwan society more. Xu also expressed his gratitude for new immigrants’ contributions made to society and their families.
