The Polish government announced on September 4 that it will donate 400,000 doses of AZ vaccine to Taiwan. The global epidemic is heating up again due to the delta variant, and there are still delays or shortages in vaccine supply. The timely donation of the Polish government not only demonstrates Poland and Taiwan’s determination to fight the epidemic together, but also as partners in democracy who love and help each other, which shows their sincere friendship. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA, 外交部) would like to express its sincere gratitude to the Polish government on behalf of the Taiwan government and of the 23.5 million people of Taiwan.

Taiwan and Poland have a close and friendly relationship, especially based on both countries’ similar ideas on the universal values of democracy, freedom, human rights, and the rule of law. In September 2020, at the 9th Taiwan-Poland Economic and Trade Consultation Conference (9屆台灣波蘭經貿諮商會議), the two sides signed two agreements to support small and medium-sized enterprises with innovation and certification cooperation. In February 2021, Taiwan and Poland signed a cooperation agreement on criminal justice which officially took effect, further improving the essential bilateral relations between the two countries, which will create more friendships and connections in the future.

In addition, the MOFA and the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW, 衛生福利部) have worked closely together, and specifically instructed the Taiwan Representative Office in Poland (灣駐波蘭代表處) to maintain close contact with the Polish government. According to the information announced by the Polish government, this batch of vaccines has been shipped and has arrived Taoyuan International Airport on September 5. Taiwan and Poland will continue to help each other fight the pandemic and together build a beautiful post-epidemic future.
