On November 17, the Thai government announced that it would officially roll out the new "Thai E-Visa" electronic visa system on January 1, 2025. This system will provide services through 94 Thai embassies and consulates worldwide, allowing foreign travelers to apply for visas online anytime via the official website (www.thaievisa.go.th). The initiative aims to significantly improve efficiency and convenience.
Worawoot Pongprapapant, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the electronic visa system would integrate databases from relevant agencies, simplify documentation, and enhance visa processing speeds. He emphasized that the system primarily targets travelers needing to apply for various visa types. The current visa-free policies, including Taiwan's 60-day visa-free access, will remain unchanged, and travelers from visa-exempt countries do not need to apply for additional visas.
Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa highlighted that the electronic visa system is designed for various purposes, such as studying, business, or investment in Thailand. The streamlined application process will make the overall travel experience smoother. The platform supports 15 languages and offers online payment options for most countries.
Currently, travelers from 93 countries, including Taiwan, enjoy visa-free entry to Thailand, allowing stays of up to 60 days. Additionally, those eligible for visa-on-arrival can continue to apply upon entry under existing regulations without needing to use the electronic visa system.
