To welcome the coming of International Migrants Day on December 18, the Zhonghe Branch "Indonesian Reading Group"'s New Resident Families Culture Exchange Event, particularly invited the Muslims community to prepare a traditional dish for each person and to read together. There were more than 40 Muslims friends that joined in and shared their feelings of missing their hometown. The members from the Zhonghe Branch "The Indonesian Reading Group" brought the traditional dishes to share with others, and the event was full of happiness and laughs.
Chen Shanni, who is from Indonesia and participates in the Zhonghe Branch Indonesian Reading Group every month. She said that the Indonesian Reading Group held by the library provides a leisure space for people to read and gather together. Thanks to this activity, she could not only meet with her sisters and share books but speak in her mother tongue and tell stories for her children. Also, she could pass down her hometown's culture and stories to the second generation through participating in the new resident's parent-child reading group with her children.
The Huaxin Street in the Zhonghe District is a densely populated area of New Taipei City. The director of the Zhonghe Branch, Jiang Yanfeng, states that it is hoped that the Muslims community could have wider resources of learning through the "Indonesian Reading Group"'s New Resident Families Culture Exchange Event, Which also provides a homey space for them to gather together. The members of the reading group are from students who came to Taiwan for studying, Indonesian wives, and migrant workers, and they all look forward to the reading group gathering every month. Moreover, the members also bring their children to participate together and share their life experiences in Taiwan. They all love this kind of activity.
