This year, the Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation and the Labor Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government collaborated on a project (外國人安心培力照護提升計畫) to improve the quality of care. Foreign care workers can effectively learn more professional care skills and knowledge by setting up free home guidance from professionals and accompanying interpreters to help with translation. This will shorten the running-in period between new care workers and employers and elders in care and help them quickly integrate and adapt to their new environment.

Mr. Huang from Taichung City submitted an application for a foreign caregiver for his mother since she required care and qualified to do so. Ah-li, an Indonesian caregiver, however, surprised Mr. Huang because she is a recent arrival to Taiwan, who not only does not understand Chinese, but has no prior experience providing nursing care.

Later, Mr. Huang discovered he could apply for free professional home guiding services through the long-term care case manager's recommendation, which he did. Ali progressively mastered various nursing skills under the guidance of experienced nurses, and interpreters helped with the explanations. As a result, her work has steadily improved.

According to the Honda Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation, Taichung City residents can apply until October 20 for free home guidance from licensed nurses as long as they have pertinent needs. Additionally, proficient speakers of Indonesian and English are welcome to collaborate with migrant workers as guide translation teachers.
